First, what we do not claim. If a product page does not mention oven, microwave, freezer or dishwasher use together with a temperature limit from the supplier, that use is not confirmed. When in doubt, hand wash and keep items away from high heat.
Borosilicate glass
Used for the bases of our glass food storage containers. Borosilicate glass is a clear, hard glass.
- Wash in warm soapy water with a soft sponge. Avoid scouring pads that can scratch.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as pouring boiling water into a cold container or putting a hot container on a wet or cold surface.
- Check for chips and cracks before each use; stop using a damaged item.
Glass jars
Our pantry jars are clear glass. Wash by hand and let them dry completely before refilling, especially with dry goods such as flour, rice or pasta.
Polypropylene (PP)
Used for clip lids, snap-lock containers, produce keepers and bento boxes. It is light and does not break like glass.
- Hand wash in warm soapy water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Strongly coloured foods such as tomato sauce or curry can stain PP over time.
- Keep lids away from direct heat sources such as hobs and toasters.
Silicone seal rings
Most of our lids have a removable silicone seal. Lift it out now and then to wash it and the groove it sits in, let both dry fully, then press the ring back evenly all the way round.
Stainless steel
Used for bento tins, food jars, bottles and cutlery.
- Hand wash and dry straight away to avoid water marks.
- Do not soak double-wall bottles and jars, and never put them in an oven or microwave.
- Remove seals and caps to clean them separately.
Bamboo lids
Bamboo is a natural material: grain and colour vary from lid to lid, and it can change slightly with use.
- Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not soak or leave in standing water.
- A little mineral oil of the kind sold for wooden chopping boards can help the surface if it looks dry.
Cotton and linen blends
Used for aprons, tea towels, dishcloths, pot holders, trivets, napkins, bread bags and produce bags.
- Wash before first use and follow the care label sewn into each item.
- Natural fibres can shrink slightly on the first wash and soften with use. Shades can vary a little between batches.
- Textiles are not flame resistant: keep them away from open flames and hot plates.
Vinyl labels
Apply to smooth, clean and dry glass. Press from the centre outwards to avoid bubbles. Keep label sheets away from young children.
